EUS-Guided Drainage of Pancreatic Fluid Collections Using Fully Covered Self-Expandable Metal Stents.

چکیده

KB Endoscopic treatment of pancreatic fluid collections involves internal drainage of the collection into the bowel lumen. Historically, in order to perform endoscopic drainage, 3 conditions have to be met. First, the fluid collection has to be reasonably mature (ie, it has to have a well-defined wall and be primarily liquid in content). Second, the wall of the fluid collection has to be adherent to the bowel lumen (unlike Figure 1, which shows a fluid collection with poor adherence). Third, the fluid collection has to be a reasonable size (generally >6 cm).

Transrectal endoscopic ultrasound-guided drainage of pelvic abscess with placement of a fully covered self-expandable metal stent.

Pelvic abscess developed in an 88-year-old woman (Case 1) following a Hartmann’s procedure for a perforated diverticulum and in a 78-year-old woman (Case 2) after diverticulitis (●" Fig.1). Conservativemanagement was unsuccessful in the first patient due to advanced age and in the second patient due to severe co-morbidities. Both patients underwent transrectal endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided...

Endoscopic Management of Pancreatic Fluid Collections in Children

The incidence of acute pancreatitis in children has increased over the last few decades. The development of pancreatic fluid collection is not uncommon after severe acute pancreatitis, although its natural course in children and adolescents is poorly understood. Asymptomatic fluid collections can be safely observed without any intervention. However, the presence of clinically significant sympto...

Endoscopic Drainage of Pseudocysts

During the last decade, great progress has been made in minimally invasive endoscopic techniques. For pancreatic pseudocysts (PPCs), endoscopic drainage has become the first-line therapeutic option. Recent advances in therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-related techniques have focused on EUS-guided transmural drainage, which is now replacing the conventional endoscopy-guided transmural drai...

Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Transluminal Drainage for Peripancreatic Fluid Collections: Where Are We Now?

Endoscopic drainage for pancreatic and peripancreatic fluid collections (PFCs) has been increasingly used as a minimally invasive alternative to surgical or percutaneous drainage. Recently, endoscopic ultrasound-guided transluminal drainage (EUS-TD) has become the standard of care and a safe procedure for nonsurgical PFC treatment. EUS-TD ensures a safe puncture, avoiding intervening blood vess...

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided placement of plastic pigtail stents for the drainage of refractory malignant ascites

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided drainage is now the treatment of choice in cases of pancreatic pseudocysts and walled-off necrosis, especially in the absence of luminal bulging and in patients with portal hypertension. Malignant refractory ascites usually heralds a poor prognosis and substantially impairs the quality of life of patients because of the symptoms experienced and the need for re...
